The CADILLAC XTS vs The Lexus GS


Powertrain and Performance

The engine of the Lexus GS shares a lot of similarities with the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Sedan, but falls short of the CADILLAC XTS in terms of powertrain. The engine of the Lexus GS is a 2.0-liter, 241 horsepower I-4 engine which generates 258 pound-feet of engine torque, whereas, the CADILLAC XTS features a 3.6-liter, 304 horsepower direct injection V6 engine which generates 264 pound-feet of engine torque. The Lexus GS also shares a similar 17.4-gallon fuel tank capacity which the CADILLAC XTS outmatches with its 19-gallon fuel capacity. As an added benefit to speed and efficiency, the CADILLAC XTS features aluminum alloy wheels in all trim levels whereas the Lexus GS features heavier steel wheels in its base trim level with alloy wheels available in a higher trim. Even a trip to Joliet never felt so fun with more time to enjoy the ride and fewer stops at the pump!

Interior Space and Comfort

While both sedans seat five passengers with a lot of cargo volume in the trunk, the CADILLAC XTS has the more comfortable and spacious interior to offer with 104.2 cubic feet of passenger volume, allowing for 38-40 inches of head room and 40-48 inches of leg room. The Lexus GS, by contrast, features about 99 cubic feet of passenger volume, which breaks down to 38 inches of total head room and 37-42 inches of leg room between the second and first rows.

Safety

When it comes to safety and overall durability, you won't be disappointed with the CADILLAC XTS, which received the highest "Superior" rating in Front Crash Prevention by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and features such extra features in all trim levels, such as front and rear parking assist sensors, a highway safety kit, OnStar®, the Passenger Sensing System, and Teen Driver technology. Many of these features are available on higher trim levels of the Lexus GS, but many features are absent from the Lexus GS entirely, such as OnStar®. The Lexus GS also scored the lowest "Basic" rating in Front Crash Prevention by IIHS.

    Interior Space 

    When it comes to the interiors of both sedans, both have a lot of comfort to offer as luxury brands, but you'll find that the CADILLAC XTS offers a bit more than most luxury models, including the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Sedan. The CADILLAC XTS has about 104.2 cubic feet of passenger volume, which allows for 38-40 inches of head room (between the second and front rows) as well as 40-46 inches of leg room between both rows. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class, by contrast, has about 38 inches of headroom in both the first and second rows as well as 36-41 inches of leg room. The CADILLAC XTS also has a lot more trunk space to offer with 18 cubic feet over the 13.1 cubic feet of cargo volume included in the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Sedan.

    Powertrain and Efficiency

    One of the best things about luxury cars, that people love to talk about, are their engines and speed capabilities. People love a luxury car with excellent powertrain and fun drivability; for you fun-loving motorists out there, the CADILLAC XTS has your back! Underneath the hood of this sedan, you'll find a high-performing 3.56-liter, 304 horsepower gas V6 engine with manual-shift automatic transmission and a 19-gallon fuel tank capacity for added efficiency. The Mercedes-Bens E-Class Sedan features a less-powerful 2.0-liter, 241 horsepower intercooled I-4 engine that's paired with an automatic transmission with overdrive and a 17.4-gallon fuel capacity.

    Price and Warranties

    Who doesn’t like saving money in the long run? With the CADILLAC XTS, you'll be able to do exactly that thanks to its price and warranties. The CADILLAC XTS starts out at $47,390 and all new models are typically given a reduction from their manufacturer-suggested price to our special Ettleson Price. The CADILLAC XTS is also backed by several warranties from the CADILLAC brand such as a 48-month/50,000-mile (whichever comes first) Basic Warranty as well as a 72-month/70,000 Powertrain Limited Warranty covering your engine and transmission parts. The Mercedes-Bens E-Class Sedan is backed by a Basic Warranty of the same six-year duration, but does not feature a Powertrain Warranty. The E-Class Sedan also begins at $52,950, which is a difference of more than $6,000. Any and all discounts on that starting price would be left up to the discretion of the Mercedes-Benz retailer you purchase this sedan from.
